F. Lipari
“I have always been attracted to barns and fishing shacks. Although often in very poor shape, I find myself wondering what they looked like and how they blended into the landscape when they had just been built. I also find myself awed when I stumble upon one still standing in an open landscape. I embarked on a project of renewing these structures in an architectural sense and placed them in a pure, clutter-free environment. Free of perspectives, the distant horizon gives an impression of depth, peace and serenity.” - F. Lipari

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in 1959 in Montreal, Francis Lipari’s (F. Lipari) background and decades-long career in graphic design & advertising has had a profound influence on his work. Pure lines and richness in color choices blend with a minimalist approach. Largely influenced by his love of nature, Lipari’s subjects are carefully chosen and presented in their purest form. His settings are devoid of clutter, thus evoking a sensation of peace and serenity.
Broad strokes of thin acrylic washes, multiple layers, and subtle hues create depth, while the main feature is highlighted by a signature mark of realism…inviting all the focus and attention it merits. When looking at his work, F. Lipari wants you to feel its mood and be transported into his world.

“F. Lipari’s signature style and keen sense of scale captures the serene grandeur of Canada’s landscape. Reminiscent of paintings by Christopher Pratt and Alex Colville."

September 2018 issue - "Reworking The Blues"
Writer: Brian Stuff, MFA from USM
“… Then there are two seascapes by Canada born artist F. Lipari, one over the living room fireplace, the other, across the dining area at the top of the stairs just over a railing, based on designs from England’s Brighton Pavilion. Both canvases seem to present perfect reasonable coastal backdrops, the same spectrum of sky tones used to polite effect throughout the home, but there’ s something in those razor-straight horizons. Look closer. Don’t they feel Zen? One can imagine Footbridge Beach but also, somehow simultaneously, the desert. A vast humming energy exists in all that stillness…”

Quotes from Francis [F. Lipari]
“I like horizons, wide open spaces, and a very minimalist approach. There’s a feeling of grandeur. It comes from, as a kid, being powerless, feeling so small. My life is so little in the big picture of things.” - F. Lipari
“I am in a zone, thinking about colors, angles, shadows…trying to put down on canvas what I picture in my mind when I think of a barn or an ocean cottage. I am not searching for perfection that is replicating real life scenes. I am razor-sharped focused trying to translate what I see. I guess that my motivation is to prove to myself that I can effectively translate what is in my mind on to my paintings. It is really hard to describe." - F. Lipari
“When I have a new piece to create, I am a bit on edge. Thinking about my approach with regards colors, angles, shadows, edges, sky, negative space, and so on. I create the entire painting in my mind before I even start to mix my colors. As soon as I start sketching the piece, my mind is once again at rest." - F. Lipari
“When I start painting the finishing touches and little details...that is the moment my piece becomes alive.” - F. Lipari
“The final product is pretty close to my original sketch with regards to composition, but I change things around all the time as I progress with the piece.” - F. Lipari
“The devil is in the details. It takes time and patience. I don’t really mind if people do not see those details. I care because it’s important to me." - F. Lipari
