John Stockwell

"Meditation can be understood as the space between one thought coming in and another left behind. This is the place I want to reach in my paintings. My work invokes the space between the rolling hills of Southern Sweden and fields of lush flowers. I search for a

balance, intuitively. I intend, with the intense foreground color meeting the clouds on the horizon, to suggest a mystery and a calm that also offers energy. My aim is a resonant hum that allows for a sense of timelessness.

What once was a love affair with nature and its overwhelming awesomeness, has now become a political revolution, crying out to grab the best of what is still left. The tides are turning, not only in our oceans, but also in art. Once an innocent approach celebrating beauty through nature, landscape painting is now yelling out to the world to wake up.”                                                                                                                                                        – John Stockwell, 2020
